Bring Biology back to Life
Motivational teaching and learning strategies for AS/A2 Biology
A one day course on putting fun into Biology lessons in the sixth form.
Target Audience
Teachers of Biology at AS/A2 level
Course Outcomes
This well established course will give participants techniques and strategies to use in their Biology teaching with immediate effect. Participants will learn how to:
Use games to help liven up lessons and engage students more effectively.
Personalise activities by adapting them to students’ preferred learning style.
Use quick and easy starter activities to set a beneficial learning climate and turn students on to the lesson ahead.
Review learning effectively with quick, easy and enjoyable plenary techniques.
Use easily available materials to develop students’ understanding through 3D modelling.
Make revision lessons more engaging and relevant.
Course Leader
Dr Helen Causier is an experienced teacher and examiner of Biology, currently working at a large specialist Science College, where she is also part-time SENCO. She takes a particular interest in overcoming the exam-driven “teaching to the syllabus” approach which often characterises lessons at AS/A2, so that students of Biology can re-kindle their enthusiasm for the challenge, stimulation, and enjoyment of the subject. Helen has devised and delivered training for the ASE on bringing “Fun and Games” into Science teaching, and such
approaches regularly characterise her own lessons. This course has been delivered
successfully to delegates across the UK, who have given it a unanimous “thumbs-up”!
